Project summary

This private homeowner installed the SpeeTile10 system in their living room and kitchen.

In what type of home did you install your heating system?
A 1980s terraced house with an extension.

How many people are in your household?
Six.

How did you come across WARP Systems?
Online. I researched various options, and your system suited our situation best.

Why did you choose a low-temperature hydronic heating and cooling system?
It’s a much more comfortable way to distribute heat in the home. Our radiator was under a window on the old facade, and since we built an extension with sliding doors, underfloor heating was the obvious choice.

Do you think sustainability is important? Why or why not?
Absolutely. Everyone must do their part if we want to make a difference. Climate issues demand it.

Do you have specific sustainability goals for the future?
A green roof this November, perhaps a heat pump next year, and possibly solar panels further down the line.

What convinced you to choose self-installation?
Mainly cost considerations, but also the wealth of information gave us the confidence to install it ourselves.

How did you experience the installation overall?
It was very manageable. We had a complete parts package with plenty of instructions on paper and online.

Which aspects were easier than expected?
The SpeeTile mats were super simple to lay and to slot the pipes into. Gluing the mats in place was also very straightforward.

Which aspects required extra effort?
Where the pipes bent, the SpeeTile mats sometimes lifted. We applied extra adhesive, which was easy to do. Levelling the floor was quite a task; if I ever do it again, I’ll definitely use a pump. Mixing was tricky because some bags had clumps of already-set levelling compound (always in the bottom corner, as if they’d gotten damp).

Did you use the installation tools and instruction videos? If so, how helpful were they?
Definitely, multiple times. They were very helpful for almost every step. I only noticed that the tools didn’t always fit the manifold; there are different manifolds, and I think the system has evolved over the years.
