Project summary
This private homeowner installed SpeeTherm15 in the living room and kitchen, finishing it first with Heat-Foil and then with laminate.
In what type of home did you install your heating system?
A mid-terraced house from 1969 with a wooden subfloor.
How many people are in your household?
Three.
How did you come across WARP Systems?
A friend told me about it and I saw it at a trade fair.
Why did you choose a low-temperature hydronic heating and cooling system?
Primarily because we were getting a heat pump.
Do you think sustainability is important? Why or why not?
Definitely! Especially to reduce the use of fossil fuels and thereby lower CO₂ emissions.
Do you have specific sustainability goals for the future?
We still need to replace some windows with double glazing and plan to install additional solar panels in 2023 to cover the heat pump’s energy use. Once that’s done (around mid-2024?), we’ll be Net Zero!
What convinced you to choose self-installation?
Because we had limited storage space, we wanted to clear the entire living room in one go. So first we emptied and stripped the front room and laid the underfloor heating and new floor, then moved the back room and kitchen furniture into the renovated front room, and finally renovated the back room and kitchen. It was a bit cumbersome, but it worked best for us. Also, I liked the adventure of doing it myself, following Pippi Longstocking’s motto: “I’ve never done it before, so I think I can do it.”
How did you experience the installation overall?
The installation went well overall. The instructions are clear and it’s doable for any handy DIYer.
Which aspects were easier than expected?
None were easier, I estimated it pretty accurately. But, as they say, you learn by doing, so it went smoother as we progressed.
Which aspects required extra effort?
Fitting twenty pipes (10 circuits) at the manifold was tight. The layout plan optimistically shows all 20 entering the cupboard in one run, but in reality the space was much tighter. I had to improvise quite a bit there.
Did you use the installation tools and instruction videos? If so, how helpful were they?
Absolutely! Both the tools and the videos were essential. The small hand tools are indispensable; you really need them. The pipe reel didn’t work smoothly for me (it didn’t spin well), which was a downside. The videos are brief but provide enough guidance and support.
